The director of SUMMA gave a lecture at Brown University on social rights and educational policies in Chile and Latin America

The director of SUMMA and affiliate professor at the University of Cambridge, Javier González, gave a lecture on social rights and educational policies in Chile and Latin America at Brown University, entitled “Why education markets fail: moving from privatization towards a social rights approach ”.

Invited by Dr. Kenneth K. Wong, professor of Political Science, and International and Public Affairs of the university, the economist and specialist in education presented during the lecture an study on the recent reforms in Chile to deprivatize the educational system, carried out together with Dr. Emiliana Vegas, Co-Director of the Universal Education Center of the Brookings Institution.

The study is part of the book chapter written by Javier González and Emiliana Vegas,  “The Long Chilean Road Towards an Inclusive Education System: From laissez-faire to state regulation and constitutional change”, included in the book “Centering Whole-Child Development in Global Education Reform: International Perspectives on Agendas for Educational Equity and Quality”, edited by Professor Wong and to be released by Routledge Press in 2022.
